Laundry Basics: How to Clean Workout Clothing

Are you tired of your workout clothes smelling funky no matter how many times you wash them? Have you ever wondered why your athletic gear starts to lose its stretch and moisture-wicking capabilities over time? The answer may lie in how you’re washing them.

Here are some steps to effectively wash your workout clothing:

  1. Sort your clothes – Separate your workout clothes from regular clothes and sort them by color and fabric type. This will help you avoid color bleeding and prevent fabric damage.
  1. Check the labels – Before washing, read the care labels on your workout clothes. These labels provide instructions on the best washing method for each garment.
  1. Pre-treat stains – If your workout clothes have tough stains, pre-treat them with a couple spritzes of Stain Spray or a mixture of Oxygen Brightener and warm water. Allow it to sit for 15-30 minutes before washing.
  1. Use the right detergent – Choose a gentle but powerful laundry detergent. Our laundry detergent sheets and pods both work great for this! Avoid fabric softeners as they can clog the fibers and reduce breathability.
  1. Wash in cold water – Cold water is gentler on fabrics and helps prevent shrinking. Use a gentle cycle and avoid washing with other items to prevent tangling.
  1. Hang dry (preferred) or tumble dry on low (always remember to read the care instructions on garments if choosing this option!) – Avoid high heat drying cycles as they can damage the fabric and elastic fibers. Instead, air dry or tumble dry on low heat.
  1. Store properly – Once your workout clothes are dry, store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in a damp gym bag or crumpled in a drawer, as this can cause mold and bacteria growth.

By following these steps, you can keep your workout clothing looking and smelling fresh for longer, ensuring that you get the most out of your activewear.
